About George Khamis, MA, LLP - Clinical Psychologist

At the heart of my work is a mission to redefine what’s possible in mental health and personal growth. I specialize in guiding individuals, families, and couples through profound transformations by addressing not just symptoms, but the deeper layers of the human experience. My approach goes beyond traditional methods, offering an integrative and dynamic pathway to healing and thriving.

Hello, I’m George Khamis, the founder and director of MI Wellbeing! My journey in the mental health field is deeply rooted in a passion for understanding the human mind and helping others navigate their mental health journeys with compassion and care. I began my academic career with a dual degree in Neuroscience and Psychology from Kalamazoo College, which laid the foundation for my integrative approach to therapy. Building on this, I earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Wayne State University, where I refined my expertise in evidence-based therapeutic practices.

After becoming licensed, I trained at Mala Family and Child Institute, specializing in conjoint child and family therapy. Currently, I am completing my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. My doctoral work focuses on developing integrative treatment models for neurodiversity, specifically ADHD, Autism, and related conditions, addressing the unique challenges faced by these populations. I incorporate neurodiversity principles with somatic therapy, polyvagal theory, relational psychoanalysis, and other evidence-based practices to create personalized, holistic care plans that honor each person’s strengths and needs.

Living between Michigan and San Francisco, I am committed to fostering strong, supportive therapeutic relationships. I see clients in person whenever possible and offer telehealth sessions via phone and video to ensure continuity of care. Licensed by the State of Michigan (License #6361007730), I am dedicated to providing integrative, transformative mental health care to individuals and families.

My work is grounded in a belief that true healing emerges from honoring the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. I strive to cultivate environments where clients feel deeply understood, respected, and empowered to embrace their unique journey. Each step of my work is guided by a commitment to innovation and compassion, helping clients not only navigate their challenges but also uncover their potential to thrive.

A Philosophy of Transformative Care

At MI Wellbeing, we believe that healing requires more than addressing symptoms—it demands a deeper understanding of the whole person. My work aligns with this vision, embracing the complexity of human experience and providing integrative, depth-based care that moves beyond surface-level solutions. My approach weaves together evidence-based methodologies and holistic practices to create a personalized journey toward healing and thriving. By focusing on the roots of challenges rather than just the symptoms, I help clients uncover profound insights, enabling long-lasting transformation in every area of their lives.

Depth-Based Individual Therapy

When working with individuals, I take a depth-oriented, psychodynamic approach that goes to the core of what drives behavior, emotions, and patterns. By exploring unconscious influences and long-standing emotional dynamics, I guide clients toward a deeper understanding of themselves and their experiences. This work isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about building a foundation for genuine growth and self-discovery, empowering clients to live with greater authenticity, emotional freedom, and confidence.

I specialize in working with neurodiverse individuals, including those navigating ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, giftedness, and learning differences. My approach focuses on identifying strengths while addressing challenges like executive function deficits and emotional regulation. Drawing on my doctoral research, I’m developing innovative, neuro-affirmative methods to support this population. My ADHD and executive function coaching provides structured, actionable strategies for overcoming everyday obstacles and creating sustainable routines. This is more than just skill-building—it’s a transformative process that helps individuals unlock their potential, regain confidence, and thrive in their personal and professional lives.

Supporting Families and Couples

In addition to individual work, I have extensive experience with families and couples, addressing the intricate dynamics that shape relationships. Through attachment-based therapy, family systems work, and intergenerational trauma healing, I help clients unravel complex patterns and build stronger, more harmonious connections. My approach integrates relational psychodynamics, which delves into the deeper emotional undercurrents influencing relationships, creating space for profound shifts in understanding and intimacy. These methods can be life-changing, empowering families and couples to navigate challenges, foster communication, and achieve meaningful connection.

Somatic and Trauma-Informed Approaches

Trauma-informed care is central to my practice. I use somatic experiencing, polyvagal work, and the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) to help clients address unresolved trauma and regulate their nervous systems. These body-centered techniques allow clients to release tension, build resilience, and restore a sense of safety and balance in their lives. The SSP, a music-based intervention, is particularly powerful in calming the nervous system and enhancing emotional regulation. These approaches are not only effective in trauma recovery but also in helping clients reconnect with themselves on a profound level, fostering a sense of grounding and calm that ripples into every aspect of their lives.

Holistic Wellness and Spiritual Integration

For those seeking a deeper connection to their spiritual identity or feeling spiritually lost, I offer holistic wellness and spiritual integration therapy. This work bridges the gap between psychological healing and spiritual growth, creating a pathway to greater alignment and purpose. Whether it’s exploring existential questions, navigating spiritual challenges, or integrating spiritual practices into daily life, this approach is designed to help clients find meaning, clarity, and fulfillment. By integrating spiritual exploration with therapeutic care, I help clients reconnect with their inner wisdom and embrace their journey with renewed strength and confidence.

Every aspect of my work is designed to create lasting, meaningful change. By combining depth-oriented psychological care with cutting-edge research, somatic techniques, and holistic practices, I provide a truly integrative approach that addresses the complexities of each individual’s journey. At MI Wellbeing, this philosophy guides everything I do—helping clients uncover their potential, transform their challenges, and live with purpose, connection, and vitality.

How Our Therapists Can Support You…

Our clinicians are trained in these leading therapeutic models

  • Psychodynamic therapy explores the deeper emotional and unconscious patterns that influence behavior, thoughts, and relationships. At Michigan Wellbeing, we use this approach to help clients understand how past experiences and unresolved conflicts shape their current lives. Through reflective exploration and a strong therapeutic relationship, clients gain insight into recurring patterns, develop self-awareness, and work toward meaningful change.

  • At Michigan Wellbeing, we recognize that relationships lie at the heart of emotional well-being, identity, and resilience. Attachment-based and relational therapy focus on how early relationships and attachment styles shape our emotional responses, self-perception, and capacity for connection. Through a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, we explore how these patterns show up in present-day interactions and emotional experiences. By addressing relational wounds, building trust, and fostering emotional safety, clients can develop greater self-awareness, healthier communication skills, and deeper, more fulfilling connections with themselves and others. This approach offers a path toward healing past hurts, breaking unhelpful patterns, and creating meaningful, authentic relationships.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a structured, evidence-based approach designed to help clients regulate emotions, improve relationships, and build resilience. At Michigan Wellbeing, we guide clients through core DBT skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. This approach is especially effective for those navigating intense emotions, impulsivity, or relational challenges, providing practical tools for managing life’s difficulties.

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy focuses on building secure, lasting emotional bonds between individuals, couples, and families. At Michigan Wellbeing, EFT is used to help clients identify and address underlying emotional needs, break negative interaction patterns, and create deeper connections. By exploring and restructuring emotional responses, EFT supports clients in building trust, intimacy, and resilience in their relationships.

  • At Michigan Wellbeing, we utilize a holistic approach to emotional regulation and healing through Polyvagal Therapy, Somatic Work (Somatic Experiencing), and the Safe and Sound Protocol. These therapies focus on working directly with the body’s autonomic nervous system to promote safety, balance, and connection.

Polyvagal Therapy supports the nervous system in shifting out of survival states into states of calm and connection. Somatic work helps clients release stored tension and trauma in the body, fostering emotional and physical relief. The Safe and Sound Protocol uses specially filtered music to regulate the nervous system and enhance emotional resilience.

These methods work together to create a comprehensive path to well-being, offering clients a deep sense of safety, connection, and present-moment awareness.

  • At Michigan Wellbeing, we use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients build psychological flexibility and live in alignment with their core values. ACT focuses on accepting difficult emotions and thoughts rather than struggling against them while committing to actions that lead to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. By integrating mindfulness practices and behavior-focused strategies, ACT empowers clients to navigate challenges with clarity and purpose.

  • At Michigan Wellbeing, we embrace the concept of neurodiversity, recognizing and celebrating the unique ways individuals experience and interact with the world. Whether you or your child has ADHD, AuDHD, autism, learning differences, or giftedness, we offer tailored therapeutic approaches that focus on leveraging strengths and addressing challenges. Through a combination of evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and specialized neuro-affirmative strategies, we support my clients in reaching their full potential.

  • Parenting a neurodiverse child is an emotional journey filled with unique challenges and profound rewards. Our neuro-affirmative parent training is designed to equip parents with practical tools and strategies to support their child’s development in a positive and affirming manner. We provide comprehensive guidance on effective communication, enhancing executive functioning skills, and adopting collaborative parenting approaches that strengthen family bonds. By fostering a nurturing environment that values and understands your child, we create a space for them to thrive with confidence and connection.

  • Executive function skills—including planning, organizing, time management, self-control, emotional regulation, and sustained attention—are essential for navigating everyday tasks effectively. These skills are often impacted in neurodiverse children and adults, affecting their ability to succeed in academic, professional, and personal settings.

At Michigan Wellbeing, we offer targeted executive function training to help individuals with ADHD, AuDHD, autism, and other neurodiverse conditions develop these crucial abilities. Through structured exercises, practical strategies, and personalized coaching, we empower clients to improve their organizational skills, task management, and emotional regulation. This training not only enhances independence and confidence but also significantly supports academic and vocational success.

  • Family therapy is designed to address the complexities of family dynamics and improve communication and relationships within the family unit. At Michigan Wellbeing, we work collaboratively with families to navigate conflicts, understand habitual relational patterns, and build stronger, more supportive connections.

Our approach incorporates psychodynamic family therapy, which delves into the underlying emotional and psychological processes that influence family interactions. By exploring unconscious patterns, past experiences, and internal conflicts, we help families better understand how these factors impact current relationships and behaviors. This deep exploration supports families in recognizing and transforming maladaptive patterns, fostering healthier, more adaptive dynamics.

  • Family Systems Therapy and Internal Family Systems both emphasize the interconnectedness of individuals within their relational and internal systems. At Michigan Wellbeing, these approaches address how family dynamics, internal roles, and emotional patterns impact individual and group well-being. Family Systems Therapy explores family dynamics, communication patterns, and relational roles, while Internal Family Systems focuses on the inner world of thoughts, emotions, and parts of the self. Both approaches provide tools for navigating relational conflict, fostering harmony, and building emotional resilience.

  • Couples therapy at Michigan Wellbeing is designed to help partners navigate conflict, improve communication, and deepen emotional intimacy. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method, to address challenges such as trust issues, recurring arguments, and emotional distance. Through open dialogue and guided exercises, couples develop tools to build healthier, more connected partnerships.

  • Healthy relationships are built on communication, trust, and mutual respect. In our couples therapy sessions, we help partners address challenges, improve communication, and strengthen their emotional bond. Using evidence-based approaches, such as Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method, we guide couples in navigating conflicts, life transitions, and intimacy concerns. Whether you’re working through specific challenges or simply seeking to enhance your relationship, our couples therapy provides the tools and support needed for deeper connection and lasting growth.

True healing is a journey that transcends the surface of symptoms, reaching into the depths of the soul to uncover the root of challenges, transform wounds into wisdom, and ignite profound, lasting growth. It is an awakening, a meeting of the mind, body, and spirit in harmony, where the light of awareness shines through even the darkest places. Guided by this understanding, every step is intentional, every intervention a seed of transformation, designed to ripple through your life and awaken the boundless potential within.
